LES BALLASTIERES
NATURE

Les Ballastières, a green place open to nature!
Nestled in a green setting of nearly 2 hectares, our square farmhouse with white stones is a haven of peace and contemplation.
We love to stroll there in the morning at sunrise and listen to the birds singing.
Or, under the majestic walnut tree, indulge in adventurous reading.
From nature to art there is only one step, from Man to nature, there must remain a shared experience.

Remarkable biodiversity…
The farm located in wetlands is classified as ZNIEFF type II zone.
The inventory of natural areas of ecological, faunal and floral interest (ZNIEFF) is a program initiated in 1982 by the Ministry in charge of the environment and managed by the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN). It corresponds to the census of remarkable terrestrial natural areas in metropolitan regions and the five overseas departments, as well as in Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
Two categories of zones are distinguished:
Type I ZNIEFFs, of small area, are homogeneous spaces from an ecological point of view and which shelter at least one rare or threatened species and/or habitat, of local, regional, national or community interest.
Type II ZNIEFFs are large, rich, or little-modified natural areas that offer significant biological potential; they may include type I areas and have a functional role as well as ecological and landscape coherence.

...which we must preserve!
This is how the farm became home to newts and toads, hares, deer, bats and owls. Even swallows have found shelter for their nests.
As the seasons change, the trees – wild apple, maple, chestnut, rowan – reveal different facets to us, and delight the birds.
The gardens are adorned with vibrant colours, like so many pollinators to maintain the natural balance.
Just as culture is a vector of social cohesion, it is by mobilizing together and sharing this remarkable heritage that we will guarantee its preservation for all generations.

Come and participate in the Ballastières' experimentation projects on biodiversity in the Ternois region.
