 LES BALLASTIERES

OUR COLLECTIVE

the ballast collective

The Ballast collective is made up of different personalities who are experimenting with new models of living together, sustainable, supportive, open, festive and creative.

We wanted to live differently, to create more, bigger.

Learn, understand, and experiment. And above all, we want to do it with everyone who wants to participate in this project: ✨Les Ballastières ✨

The Ballast Collective was born from the desire of a group of friends to offer a spacious space for multidisciplinary creation in a calm setting close to nature, two hours from Brussels and Paris.

We are currently renovating an old farmhouse in the Hauts-de-France region, using participatory projects and a desire to make the site as environmentally friendly as possible.

The house evolves with the people who live there, and from the start, we wanted it to be lively and conducive to meetings and projects.

David Chazam

DAVID CHAZAM

David Votre Chazam is a Brussels-based performing artist, musician, composer, and underground music activist. As a teenager in the 1980s, he made his stage debut in Poitiers, joining a collective called LOOKOOMS VENGEURS, giving solo concerts, and singing in COMMERCIAL CONCERT, which featured music by The Residents (USA) with Madjic and Dominique Pichon. He also hosted radio shows on local channels.

In the 90s, with Olivier Popincourt, he created "TSCHACK!", a disco band that got the city of Bordeaux dancing. With guitarist Monsieur Gadou, he won the first European improvised music competition at the Confort Moderne in 1993. He also began a career as a composer for the theater with directors Renaud Cojo, Gilbert Tiberghien, and choreographer Valérie Rivière. He then began collaborating with electronic music pioneer Jean Jacques PERREY, with whom he recorded two albums and toured Europe.

At this time, the 10-year collaboration with Christian Boltanski as sound assistant began.

In the 1910s, Chazam moved to Brussels and redeveloped his solo project, also creating the electropunk band "Monique Sonique" for the Victor B company in Namur. At the same time, he continued to compose for film and television, and occasionally performed as an actor on stage or in front of cameras.

Votre Chazam's work follows different paths through the music of radio creation, stage, and sound design, developing in these areas a singular vocabulary at the crossroads of pop and experimentation.

He has been playing as a DJ and programming the music at WALVIS in Brussels since 2016.

There he created a new form of participatory dance called GRAND CHOREOKE, which invites the public to dance to videos mixed with different music.
